VIA Diabetes is a Canadian NGO founded in 2025 by James Elliott and co-founded by Lucía Feito Allonca. We aim to strengthen the position of people living with diabetes in the global health agenda and we do this through connecting, advocating and sharing information with like-minded people and organizations. We also aim to end the double standard of care that exists between high- and low-income countries, educate people living with diabetes about global issues, and combat the systemic discrimination of people living with diabetes. Our vision is a world where people living with diabetes are empowered not only to be heard, but to lead—where their lived experience of their own condition, and its interrelated health impacts, places them at the forefront of health policy, research, and global health decision-making. We aim to achieve this by connecting, advocating, and supporting efforts to keep diabetes high on the global agenda. We elevate the voices of people living with diabetes globally to ensure that national, regional, and global health policies are shaped and informed by lived experiences.
